New Zen Japanese Restaurant

The New Zen Japanese Restaurant, located in Renton, Washington, is the only sushi restaurant that I know of that serves true Japanese curry-spicy, fresh and flavorful, just the way it’s supposed to be.

The restaurant is moderately priced. If your watching your wallet, they have a nice lunch selection (served 11-2 every day) that won’t break the bank. Their dinner menu however is a bit above average, so be prepared to pay $45-50 a couple, especially if you order beer or wine. They switch over to their dinner menu around 4:30.

They offer take out, serve a nice selection of soda, beer and wine and the atmosphere is come as you are. You can dress up or come in casual wear and you won’ be out of place.

Every time I have gone there, the place has been neatly kept both inside and outside. The wait staff has been extremely kind, polite and well dressed. The cooks seem to care about their work as well and their pride shows because the food has always tasted fresh, hot and has had loads of flavor. They serve both mild, hot and spicy foods, cooked to order and your preference. The food isn’t some Americanized form of sushi and Japanese food, but true sushi and authentic Japanese food.

They serve authentic soup as well that is fresh and very hot. I’ve had to let it set for a good 10 minutes or so on several occasions because it has been to hot eat it.

Their soups, shrimp and curry are my personal favorites.

The décor of the restaurant is true Japanese/Asian. You won’t mistake it-most sushi places have a stale generic décor for their restaurant, but not New Zen. It is very unique to them and more enjoyable than your typical sushi place.

On a scale of 5 stars for good food, quality of service and price, I give this place 6.
