I Love Sushi!

My name is Allan and I'm your host here at diy-sushi-recipes.com. You’ve probably figured out by now that I love sushi! I love sushi

I’m not ashamed to admit it - I could eat it seven days a week. How did I acquire this taste? Mmmm. I’m not exactly sure. The mining town where I grew up is about as far removed from sushi as it is from Japan.

My Dad may have had something to do with my adventurous approach to food. He was a chef and was always pushing the envelope when it came to experimenting with different types of cuisine.

I got my first taste of sushi when I moved to Canada's capital city (Ottawa) in the 1980's. Japanese food was still a novelty and not chic like it is today.

Back then a teppanyaki-style steakhouse located downtown was about the only place I could find that offered standard fare like ebi nigiri and kappa maki.

Looking back, that first taste experience was a sad affair. The emphasis in that restaurant was on the chef’s juggling act and the steak. The sushi was kind of an after-thought.Japanese restaurant

Things improved dramatically in Ottawa when my favourite sushi chef Mitsunori Ichino opened his restaurant Ichibei. Hands-down the best place in town! This is a picture of his restaurant.

Sunshine - Another sushi fan!Sushi cat

Its hard to believe, but I still have a lot of friends who snub up their nose when I mention the word sushi. However, I have one crazy pet who'd love to get her paws on a plate of sushi.

This is my cat Sunshine.

Ten Reasons why I love sushi
