Naked Sushi

I was baffled when I heard the term "naked sushi". My first thought was that it was just another term for sashimi. You know what I mean - just the fish without the seaweed wrap or rice.

Turns out that naked sushi refers to actually eating sushi that is presented on the body of a nude female. In Japanese it is called "nyotaimori" or female body presentation.

Well how sanitary can this whole thing be, you might ask? Good question. To address this issue some of the female models actually come wrapped in plastic cling wrap! Prior to this, they bath in a fragrance free soap and then cool the body down with cold water. Ya don't want your sushi heating up after all!

I don't know about you, but I prefer to eat my kappa maki and California rolls from a plate. Its just not how to eat sushi.

What do you think? Is this a sexist ritual designed to sell more sushi? Or is it performance art?
